ZONING CODE POSTPONED, AGAIN!
What happens when you spend so much time and so many meetings on items that don’t have majority support, in this case plastic bags? Other important issues, this time zoning code amendments (2 weeks ago animal keeping code updates) get postponed, for a third time!
Members of the public showed up to testify before council only to see these important zoning code amendments postponed at the last minute when Vice Mayor Barotz and Councilmember Putzova floated a motion to postpone due to the “late hour” and their claim that this was a “disservice to the community” to hear this item at such a “late hour”. The only disservice to our community was not staying late to do our job.
These meetings can be long but we’ve got a lot of work to do. Drink some coffee, roll up our sleeves and let’s get things done for Flagstaff!
Talked with Speaker of the House David Gowan this week. He reaffirmed his commitment to doing everything he can to assist our Veterans and help get a Veterans Care Home built in Flagstaff!

CEMETERY FEE INCREASE
Fee increase of 10%.
PASSED 5-1. I opposed this.
ANNEXATION AND ZONING MAP AMENDMENT
Annexation of McAllister Ranch into the City and zoning code map amendment for the site on West66. This will be the cities future maintenance facility.
EAST SIDE LIBRARY SPACE
The East Side Library on 4th Street has requested an additional 500 sq ft at their current location at a cost of $5,400 per year.
REGIONAL PLAN AMENDMENT
Council was asked to make a major amendment to the regional plan. Most of the changes were small technical issues. The reason it was classified as a major amendment was because roads were added to the map.
JOIN BAN ON BAG BAN (repeal SB1241) LAWSUIT
Flagstaff City Council postponed important zoning code amendments for a 3rd time after spending more time and resources on Councilmembers Evans, Putzova & Barotz continued quest to regulate PLASTIC BAGS, this time they asked council to sue the state. Request failed 4-3. This is the 2nd lawsuit they’ve proposed in the last 6 months.
Time to focus, prioritize and stop delaying pressing city issues.
Parking meters, in the form of kiosks that you can pay by card or phone will be installed downtown to help address parking issues and ultimately as a source of revenue to build a parking garage.
