Rep. Thorpe Urges Congress to Defund Planned Parenthood<>

STATE CAPITOL, PHOENIX – Representative Bob Thorpe (R-6) issued the following statement urging the U.S. Congress to defund Planned Parenthood of taxpayer money, coming amidst new data released yesterday in Planned Parenthood’s annual report:

“It’s sickening and sad that Planned Parenthood is proud of the fact that they terminated 328,348 unborn humans from 2015-2016.

“Even more shocking, while Planned Parenthood aborted one-third of a million unborn babies, they provided just 2,889 adoption referrals – making one adoption referral for about every 114 abortions that they performed.

“During this same period of time, Planned Parenthood received $554,600,000 in federal funding, or about $1,689 for each aborted child.  Not only is it appalling that Planned Parenthood deprived 328,348 unborn children in America of their lives, but it is also downright scandalous that the U.S. government, who has a duty to protect the life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness of all Americans, gave the organization over a half billion dollars of taxpayer money.

“Congress needs to find the backbone to defund Planned Parenthood and divert those scarce dollars to organizations that truly provide comprehensive health services for women, instead of focusing primarily on aborting children in America.”
