Topic: Tucson Goes $15 Minimum Wage
- In other big election news, on Tuesday, Tucson voters approved an increase in the minimum wage.
- Prop 206 passed by a 2:1 margin in Arizona’s 2nd largest city and a Democrat stronghold.
- Current state minimum wage is $12.15 per hour and increases every year based on inflation.
- The wage will increase in Tucson every year incrementally starting in 2022 until reaching $15 by 2025.
- It’ll adjust annually after that based on inflation.
Flagstaff residents voted twice and supported, both times, an increase in the minimum wage.
- On January 1, 2022, the minimum wage will be $15.50
- That’ll be a nearly doubling of wages in Flagstaff in six years.
- There has been talk of a national $15 minimum wage in Congress but it’s failed to get majority support.
- Flagstaff has a clause in the law that requires the minimum wage to be $2 over the state wage.
